How to Activate and Manage Your eSIM with Nomad Across Different Use Cases
eSIMs provide a seamless way to connect to mobile networks without requiring a physical SIM card. The following guide offers a comprehensive walkthrough to help you activate, manage, and troubleshoot your eSIM with Nomad in various scenarios.
Initial Setup and Installation
To activate a new eSIM:
Install the New eSIM: Use the QR code provided to install the eSIM. If you cannot scan it directly with your phone, send the QR code to another device and scan it from there. You can also install it manually. For instructions, please refer to the installation instructions email.
Verify Installation: After installation, verify the ICCID number on your device: Go to Settings > General > About. Find the ICCID entry and confirm it matches the one provided during purchase.
Managing and Switching eSIM Plans
Do I need a new eSIM for an add-on package?
No, a new eSIM is not required for add-on packages. You will only need to install a new eSIM when purchasing an entirely new plan.
Switching to a new device
eSIMs cannot typically be transferred to another phone. QR codes often expire after first use, and export/import options are limited. You’ll need to purchase a new plan when switching devices.
Only eSIMs provided by Amber can be reinstalled on a different device. Please ensure that the eSIM is first deleted from the first device before installing it on the second device.
Troubleshooting Activation Issues
Common Issues and Solutions:
Cannot Activate the eSIM: Verify ICCID: Go to Settings > General > About > Check ICCID. Confirm the correct eSIM is turned ON in your settings. If others are active, turn them OFF (e.g., Secondary, Business).
New Plan Not Activating: Verify ICCID and ensure it matches the one linked to your purchased plan. Ensure Data Roaming is turned ON for this eSIM. Recheck your settings for cellular data usage.
eSIM Not Connecting: Activate roaming data and verify settings: Verify APN settings. If manual network selection is required, turn OFF "Automatic" and choose the appropriate network.
FAQs and Best Practices
What should I do if I encounter connectivity issues? Recheck settings for ICCID, Data Roaming, and APN. Restart your device after making adjustments.
When should I replace my eSIM? A new eSIM is required for new plans but not for add-ons.
Turn Off eSIM When Not in Use: If WiFi is available, it’s recommended to turn off your Nomad eSIM to conserve mobile data.
Avoid Using eSIM in Your Home Country: Turn off your Nomad eSIM while in your home country and use your primary number for calls and data instead.
Before Traveling: Turn off your eSIM to avoid interference or unintended data usage. Leave the eSIM off until it’s needed often after crossing borders or reaching your destination.
Turn off data roaming for other SIMs, such as your physical or primary SIM, to avoid interference or extra charges.
Switching Between SIMs: To temporarily use another SIM (e.g., your primary SIM for calls and texts), turn off your Nomad eSIM before switching usage to the other SIM. Please note that doing so may incur roaming charges on your Primary number if you are doing this away from your home country.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure seamless activation and management of your eSIM to stay connected, no matter where you are in the world.
