When should I Install my Nomad eSIM?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

When do I need to install a new eSIM for my Nomad plan?

Managing your eSIM is crucial for seamless connectivity while using Nomad services. Below, we outline when it is necessary to install a new eSIM and when it isn't, based on different scenarios.

General Rules for eSIM Installation

  1. New Plan Purchases: Every new plan you purchase requires installing a new eSIM. Install the new eSIM using the QR code or manual code provided after the purchase. Note that you should install Thailand plans AFTER reaching Thailand as these are special plans that will activate upon installation.

  2. Transition from Free Trial to Paid Plan: If you used the free 1GB trial, you must install a new eSIM when upgrading to a purchased plan. You can purchase add-on plans before the 1GB plan expires.

  3. Switching Between Plans: If you decide to switch to any new plan (not just add-ons), a new eSIM installation is required.

Exceptions: When eSIM Installation Is Not Required

  1. Add-Ons for Existing Plans: If you purchase an add-on to extend the data or duration of your active plan, there is no need to install a new eSIM. Add-ons are automatically applied to your current eSIM profile.

  2. Automatic Activation of Top-Up Plans: If you purchase an additional plan that acts as a top-up and your current plan is active, the new plan will activate automatically once the data or the duration from your main plan is expired. No installation is required.

  3. Continuous Use of an Active Plan: After activating an eSIM for your plan, there is no need to install it again unless the plan has expired or you are switching plans. Simply continue using the plan as usual.

Step-by-Step: Installing a New eSIM for Your Plan

To install a new eSIM for a new plan:
