How Can I Manually Install and Troubleshoot My Nomad eSIM on iOS and Android Devices?

Overview

Installing and troubleshooting your Nomad eSIM on iOS or Android devices often requires manual adjustments when automatic settings or QR code methods fail. This article provides a step-by-step guide to manually configuring your eSIM, dealing with connection issues, and ensuring proper network setup.

Manual Installation of a Nomad eSIM

For iOS Devices

  1. Open Settings > Cellular > Add Cellular Plan.

  2. Select "Enter Details Manually" at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Enter the required details provided in your Nomad purchase email or in-app instructions: SM-DP+ Address - Activation Code. Leave the Confirmation Code field blank (not required).

  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

Optional: Assign a label like "Travel" or "Business" to help identify the eSIM later.

For Android Devices

  1. Navigate to Settings > Connections (or similar, depending on device) > Mobile Networks > Add Network Plan.

  2. Enter the details from your Nomad instructions: SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code

  3. Leave additional fields (like Confirmation Code) blank unless specified.

  4. Save and activate the eSIM.

Troubleshooting Common Installation Issues

When QR Code Scanning Fails

  1. Restart your device.

  2. Use the manual installation method described above.

  3. Ensure you have the correct SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code from your purchase confirmation.

If Automatic Network Selection Is Unresponsive

  1. Turn on airplane mode for at least 30 seconds, then turn it off.

  2. Disable Wi-Fi and rely solely on mobile data.

  3. Leave "Automatic Network Selection" enabled initially, then retry manual selection after some time.

  4. Manually select an available network from your region. Restart your device afterwards.

Configuring Network Settings for Optimal Connectivity

For iOS Devices

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data) > Select your eSIM.

  2. Turn ON Data Roaming.

  3. Turn OFF the "Limit IP Address" option for seamless connectivity.

  4. If "Automatic Network Selection" fails, disable it and manually select a network.

  5. Set your Access Point Name (APN) to the one specified by Nomad (see full list here).

For Android Devices

  1. Open Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks.

  2. Turn OFF "Automatically Select Network."

  3. Manually choose the network associated with your eSIM.

  4. For Nomad-specific APN configurations, navigate to Access Point Names (APN) and: - Tap "Add APN". Set the Name and APN fields as per details mentioned here.

Additional Tips

  • Always restart your device or toggle Airplane Mode after making significant changes to eSIM settings.

  • Disable your primary SIM temporarily to avoid conflicts, especially while traveling.

  • Turn Wi-Fi off and test connections using eSIM mobile data alone to verify functionality.
