How do I activate / start my Nomad eSIM?

Activate your Nomad eSIM on arrival. Turn on data roaming, ensure your device is unlocked, and let the app handle the rest automatically.

In most cases, your Nomad eSIM will automatically activate/start when it first connects to the local network. The eSIM can only be activated / started when you have arrived at your destination.

This includes automatically connecting to supported local networks based on the country you are traveling to, enabling seamless activation without any manual setup.

Keep a record of your ICCID or eSIM details for troubleshooting purposes.

Simply turn on your eSIM upon arrival at your destination to activate / start it. After enabling your eSIM, also activate 'Data Roaming' in your device's settings, then restart your device to ensure all settings are applied effectively. If you wish to avoid international charges on your primary SIM, consider disabling it or limiting its operations to voice-only mode.

For manual network selection, turn off 'Automatic Selection' under Network Operators in your device's settings and connect to a supported network in your destination.

On iOS:

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular and Turn your eSIM on.

  2. If required, update the APN under Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Network to match your provider's recommendation to establish a connection.

  3. When you are ready to use your data, make sure “Data Roaming” is toggled ON and you are selecting the Nomad eSIM for “Cellular Data”.

Ensure the APN settings under Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Network include the details for your provider as listed here: Provider APN Settings.

On Samsung:

  1. Go to Settings > SIM Manager and turn your eSIM on.

  2. Additionally, if necessary, configure your APN settings under Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names depending on the provider's requirements.

  3. When you are ready to use your data, make sure you have selected your Nomad eSIM for mobile data and that roaming is enabled.

Check that the APN under Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names is set for your provider as listed here: Provider APN Settings.

On other Android Devices:

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network, and turn on your eSIM on.

  2. If the provider specifies, verify or update the APN under Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network > Access Point Names to the provided details.

  3. When you are ready to use your data, make sure you have selected your Nomad eSIM for mobile data and that roaming is enabled.

Verify that the APN details under Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network > Access Point Names include details as per your provider listed here: Provider APN Settings.

In some cases, you may need to manually activate your Nomad eSIM. Please refer to your installation email for more details. In such cases, you will need a stable internet connection to activate your Nomad eSIM, so it is recommended that you do so before you fly. Activation can be done from the Manage Page of your eSIM on the Nomad App or Website.

Situations that may require manual activation include traveling to remote areas with limited network coverage or using older devices that do not support automatic eSIM activation.

If you still encounter connectivity issues, check whether your eSIM is enabled for mobile data and Data Roaming is toggled on. Confirm the APN configuration matches the provider's specifications and restart your device as a troubleshooting step.

If the eSIM displays "Activating...", it signifies a network search is in progress. You can expedite the connection by resetting the APN to default, then re-entering the above Nomad APN details for your provider as per details prescribed here: Provider APN Settings.
