5 places to explore Madrid's craft beer scene

· 32 min read

Madrid, the sun-drenched capital of Spain, is famous for its art, architecture, and a vibrant culinary scene that proudly features a love for beer. While Barcelona is still a better known destination for craft beer, over the past decade, Madrid has also started to emerge as a craft beer hotspot, with a number of bars serving unique, locally produced beers alongside mouthwatering tapas.

💡There are bars splattered all over the city. But if you would like to explore some of the less touristy bars, head over to La Latina.

Fábrica Maravillas

Fabrica Maravillas has garnered a solid reputation among beer enthusiasts for serving one of the best artisan craft beers in the city. As Madrid's first microbrewery, and one of the few places to drink craft beer that is brewed on-site, Fabrica Maravillas brought life to the craft beer scene in a city that is better known for wines and spirits. Here, you can find a decent selection of fresh beer served with delicious tapas. The place is small but could get rather crowded with both local and international crowds, so if you want to skip the crowds, plan to arrive just when it opens!

With 10 craft beer taps with beer from some of the best craft breweries in the country and high quality award winning cheeses sourced from local producers, what makes them stand out is the innovative cheese-based tapas and menu that makes a surprisingly good combination with the beer. But if you still prefer pairing your beer with bar food instead of cheese, you can also head to their sister restaurant Fogg Bar Birras and Burgers. Or even better, to get the best of both worlds, you can head to Birras and Cheese, but still place orders from the Birras and Burgers menu!
