Nodeulseom (Nodeul Island) is a small, artificial island situated near the southern end of the river, and located under the Han River Bridge connecting Yongsan and Noryangjin. The island only opened in 2019 as a recreational area, but was forced to temporarily shut its doors due to the pandemic shortly after. In the post-pandemic era, Nodeulseom has been gaining popularity as a place for dates and picnics. For viewers of the Korean drama, Start-up, you will also find Nodeul Island very familiar as the real-life location of SANDBOX island that was featured in the show.
What to see and do at Nodeulseom
The main attractions at Nodeulseom include a live house, bookstore, exhibition halls, gardens, and music lounges. There are also cafes and convenience stores for you to buy some bites and finger food while at the island.
Music events, shows, and festivals are often held at the island. Apart from ticketed events, Nodeulseom also hosts weekend events that will be open for all visitors to enjoy. Nodeulseom on weekends is often packed with buskers, creating a laid-back environment where you can sit back on the grass and enjoy some pretty good music. In addition to musical events, art exhibits will also be periodically held at the island. You can visit their official website for a schedule of the ongoing and upcoming performances.
If you happening to be visiting the island on a weekday with no special events, the island is also a great place to just relax and spend some time with your family and friends away from the bustling city. Consider renting a bicycle to cycle around the island, taking a stroll, or simply having a picnic by the Hangang River. Nodeulseom also boasts a very beautiful sunset and night view of Seoul, so you might want to consider visiting later in the day!
